The doctor on the phone
In our general practice, the doctor is the first point of contact. What does this mean?
When you call us, you will hear a menu of options. Option 1 is a telephone consultation: the doctor will call you back at a time of your choosing to discuss your request for care and the follow-up action. This could be medical advice, a prescription or a referral, but also an ‘old-fashioned’ consultation appointment.
Why did we choose this method?
- We noticed that our patients had to wait longer and longer for an appointment.
- In addition, they could not always get an appointment with the doctor who had seen them previously (for the same medical complaint).
- During the consultation hours it often became apparent that we could also have dealt with the request for care by telephone – and therefore much earlier.
- As a result, much valuable time was lost, both for the doctors and their patients.
